Wanda VanDyke

Wanda Freeman VanDyke died in her home on August 12, 2017, in Longview, Texas.  She was born in Kilgore, Texas, on January 13, 1944, to Carlton and Irene Freeman.  After graduating from Kilgore High School in 1962, Wanda attended Kilgore College and married Mike Stutchman the following year.  After Mike’s graduation from Stephen F. Austin State University, the couple lived in various places such as Oklahoma, south Louisiana, and Puerto Rico.  Michael, Catherine and Ty were the children born of this marriage.

Wanda enjoyed working for Brown & Root as a buyer for many years.  After the closing of this company’s office in Longview, she was hired at Texas Eastman.  Wanda was employed with Texas Eastman until July 2000 when she had a tragic accident resulting in her inability to work.

Prior to July 2000, Wanda enjoyed supporting the participation of her three children in many activities.  She attended every recital, basketball and football game, band concert, drill team performance and graduation.  She never missed an event! Wanda was also known to work a 12 hour shift then go home and mow the yard with perfection.  She was a stellar housekeeper as well. 

Wanda is survived by her three children and their families: Michael and Carrie Stutchman, step-son, Robert, and grandchildren Mika, Levi, and William of Oklahoma, Catherine Russell and her children, Payton and Catie Grace of Nacogdoches, Ty and Keri Stutchman and their children Jagger and Paxtyn of Longview.

She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Robert Sterrett and her brother, James Freeman of Longview along with several nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank the many individuals that cared for Wanda in her home, especially Rosalind Daniels who was with her in the most recent years.  Rosalind was her trusted caregiver and friend.

Graveside service will be held Friday, August, 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Stewart Cemetery, 15332 N. FM 782,Tatum, TX, 75691.
