Dorothy Key Obituary

Dorothy "Dot" Morgan Key passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She went to be with her Lord at the age of 82. She was born on Friday, May 16, 1941 to Samuel Arthur Morgan and Bertie May Chatman Morgan. She was adopted at 13 months of age by James Milton Morgan and Hazel Shook Morgan.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Kert Key, Sr.; granddaughter, Miranda Leigh Rust Turner; and grandson Jonathan Barrett Mealer; 5 brothers and 1 sister.
She is lovingly remembered by daughters Robyn Key Oznick (Danny) of Garland, Texas, and Rhonda Joyce Key of Adairsville, Georgia, and son Kert "Kenny" Key, Jr. (Renee) of Longview, Texas. She was cherished by grandchildren Matthew Mealer, Cory Key, Brent Key, Jessica Key, and Keaton Key; great-grandchildren Eryn and Emily Mealer; Baleigh, Haddie and Elsy Key; Braydon and Brianna Turner; Abby Key and Jamie Haltom; great-great-granddaughter Sadieleigh Turner; 2 sisters Joyce and Jane; niece Terry Morgan Inscoe (who lived with Mama Dot for a while), and many other nieces and nephews.
She graduated from West Fannin High School in 1959. She married her sweetheart and celebrated 56 wedding anniversaries before he passed in 2015. She had many seamstress and clerical jobs. She retired from Stemco in 1997.
Her most noted talent was that of a seamstress. She made most of her children's clothes as they were growing up. She sewed a couple of wedding dresses. She whipped up matching shirt and neckerchief for her husband and square dance skirt and top for herself. She loved to talk and laugh. Game nights playing chicken foot dominos with friends made her happy. If family and/or friends needed a shoulder to cry on, she felt honored to be there. She sat with many sick and dying, fed the hungry, sheltered the homeless, and mourned with those who lost a loved one. She spent her life laying up her treasures in heaven.
The Key Family would like to acknowledge and thank Dot's caregivers at Heart to Heart Hospice, as well as her church family at Woodland Hills Baptist Church for their love and support.
Her cremation was performed by East Texas Funeral Home of Longview, Texas, with a celebration of life to be held at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church 465 Kingston Hwy, Kingston, GA 30145, on April 27, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. Interment to follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. Reverend Ronnie Cowart and Reverend Butch Cole will officiate the service.
