Dr. Dan-Alexandru Iordache passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 in Longview, Texas. He was an Emeritus Professor of Physics of the University Politehnica of Bucharest, Romania, and a member of the Romanian Academy of Scientists. At the University Politehnica, he taught Physics classes for 50 years. A prolific researcher, he authored or co-authored over 480 publications, including books, conference papers, and journal papers.
Dr. Dan-Alexandru Iordache had a strong passion for Physics education and volunteered much of his time teaching classes for top-performing high-school students and for the Romanian Physics Olympiads (local and national Physics contests for middle and high-school students). He supervised five times the Romanian student delegation to the International Physics Olympiads. His classes for the top-performing students were very effective, as indicated by the results of the Romanian students at the International Physics Olympiads.
Dr. Dan-Alexandru Iordache with his family enjoyed playing chess and telling his children stories about important historical events. He loved taking his family on mountain-hiking trips. His focus, however, was on the education of his children. At home, he spent many housrs teaching his children topics that were not covered in school, as he sought to ensure that they learn in much depth and breadth Math and Physics. He taught his children to work hard and insisted that time should be used well. In his leisure time, he spent time reading books. He was very interested in Christian books and read daily from the Bible.
Dr. Dan-Alexandru Iordache is survived by his wife Viorica, his daughter Cristina and her children, and his son Marian. He and his wife were married for 52 years. His son has been a member of the Electrical Engineering Faculty of LeTourneau University for the last 16 years.
