Donald Ray Walker

Donald Ray Walker of Longview, Texas, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at the age of 75 after a decade-long battle with cancer.

Don was born on September 19, 1947, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Lucille (Young) and Robert March Walker, Jr.

Don was a life-long enthusiast of meditation, sailing and flying the airplane that he built over the course of seven years and affectionately called Tweetie. He loved taking people up to fly every chance that he could. Towards the end of his life he found a passion for antique cars and enjoyed driving friends and strangers alike around town in his Model T and Model A Fords. He was also a gifted poet, writer, and philosopher, expressing his thoughts and ideas through his creative pursuits

Throughout his life, Don was known for his dedication to helping people recover from addiction as a drug and alcohol counselor. He spent many years of his life serving others, making a significant impact on their lives wherever he could.

Don was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his loving children, Landon Walker and wife, Ashley of Spokane, Washington; and Amanda Maynard (Walker) of Bryant, Arkansas. His siblings, Bob Walker and wife, Donna; his twin sister, Linda Christiansen; and his sister, Mary June Walker and wife, Debra. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren, Shawn; Jack; Ryan; Gavin; Isabella; Trendon; and Ava who lovingly referred to him as Papaw.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at East Texas Funeral Home located at 6522 McCann Road in Longview, Texas at 4:00 pm with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Don will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
