Emmy J. "Penny" Baker, 89, went to be with her Heavenly Father on June 15th, 2019. She was born on August 7th, 1929, in Harleton, Texas to May Riley and Willard Alvin Oney. She attended Piney school until the 8th grade. She worked in the Blue Buckle blue jean factory in Marshall, Texas as well as administration assistant of oil and gas sales. Later, Emmy met the love of her life, Gilbert Baker. They were married, and she became a homemaker.
Emmy enjoyed life to the fullest by being around her family and friends. Family was of the utmost importance to her. She was not able to bare children but took care of many nieces and nephews. People will remember the wonderful gardening she and her sister grew for many years. They would make sure to share their crops with others in the community. She liked to dabble in art, and she was skilled at cutting hair for the men in the family. Emmy loved to sit and listen to country music. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
Emmy was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Baker; her parents, May and Willard Alvin Oney; her siblings, Vertis Valerie Harber and Edith Marie Clark.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Longview Hills Nursing facility and Hospice of East Texas.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. in the East Texas Funeral Home Chapel located at 6522 McMann Road in Longview, Texas. Interment will follow at Piney Cemetery in Harleton.
