Eric was born to Oakley and Lee Thompson in Tinley Park, IL. Spending most of his childhood in East Lancing, MI, his family later moved during his high school years to sunny California. It was during this time that Eric cultivated his true passion: to live a life in service to the Lord. He attended some college and began a career in civil design drafting. However, his heart was always in missions. After marrying his second wife, Denise Thompson, they would engage in a life of missionary work together including projects in the Philippines and Ukraine. After Denise passed in 2010, he continued his missions work adding trips to Africa and Honduras to his ministry list. He also had a passion for music and worship. Throughout his years in ministry, he also served the church in music leadership.
Eric’s favorite motto he would lovingly share with his children was “life’s not fair and then you die.” It was a playful reminder to not invest too much emotional energy on the hurts in this life because the true focus is our eternal one. What he lacked in material wealth he was richly compensated for in the love of his family and his eternal savior, Jesus Christ.
Eric is survived by his wife, Christy, his sisters, Jennifer and Gretta, his children, Emily, Samantha, Carrie, Tony, Cerena, Cebrena, Alyssa, Rosie, Sarah, and Jenny. He is now reunited with his parents, Oakley and Lee, his late wife, Denise, and his youngest daughter, Erica.
His graduation celebration will be held at Pathway Church in Longview, TX on Saturday, November 6, 2021, from 12PM-1PM. All floral tribute deliveries are the sole responsibility of the sender.
