Helen Donnelle “Nelle” (Nivens) Gibson
Nelle Gibson, age 86, of Longview Texas peacefully passed away June 18, 2021. Nelle was born Helen Donnelle Nivens on October 14, 1934 in Blevins, Arkansas to Ruff Nivens and Lillie Belle (Loe) Nivens. She is preceded in death by her parents Ruff and Lillie Belle, her husband of 65 years Marlin Wayne Gibson, sons Lew Kenton and Ronald Edward, sisters Linda Ann, Nina Beth, Nita, and Alita, and brothers James, John, Keith, Lyle, Wayne, and Carroll. Nelle is survived by brothers Kenneth, Leon, and Harold, sons Danny Wayne and Tracy, grandchildren April, Dana, Shayna, Jessie, and Zack, great grandchildren Nathan, Audrey, Ella, Claire, Ellie, Harper, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.
Our sweet Nelle was known by many names: Mama, Granny, Sister, Aunt, Friend. It is her tender heart and endless kindness that will live on in the hearts of many. Her door was always open and she was ready to greet everyone with a big hug and a hot meal. Nobody ever left her house hungry. For 86 years, we have been so very blessed to have this pure soul here on the earthly plane, but now a true angel has been called home to care for those in heaven. Nelle’s true happiness came when caring for those she loved, so we can take solace in knowing that she will be happy for eternity because now she is reunited with her beloved Marlin, two of her sons, and the rest of her family already residing in heaven. Together they are listening to bluegrass, cooking and eating, and chatting until the wee hours. Someday, we will be with her again, too. The legacy she leaves behind is one of a truly selfless woman who gave genuine, unconditional love and acceptance, a classy lady who was the role model we all admired, and a radiantly warm spirit who brought joy to each and every life she touched. There really are no words that can adequately describe the impact this wonderful, gracious woman had on each of us. All we can say is … Until we meet again. We love you.
Visitation for Nelle Gibson will be 5 pm to 7pm Wednesday, June 23 at East Texas Funeral Home at 6522 McCann Rd, in Longview, Texas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24 at 10:00am at East Texas Funeral Home in Longview, Texas. Interment will be at Forrest Rodgers Dollahite Cemetery in Hallsville, Texas following funeral services.
