January 8, 1946 ~ July 22, 2023 (age 77) 77 Years Old

Obituary

Hilda Ruthann Dunford of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully on July 22, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.

Ann was born on January 8, 1946 to Minnie A. McLeroy and Aaron Morgan McLeroy in Longview, Texas. She was the baby of the family behind sisters, Nell and Annette, and big brother Richard (Cotton). She attended Longview schools and graduated from Longview High School in 1964.

She married Jim Dunford in 1967. She was a homemaker raising her girls for most of her career. After the death of her husband in 2003, she began working at Walmart and continued for 17 years until she retired. She met many friends there, employees and customers. It seemed everywhere she went, someone recognized her from Walmart. A lot of customers would wait in line just to see her sweet smile and visit with her for a minute.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was the best Mom and Mimi to us girls, attending all of our school functions and running us here and there. She would do anything for us –at any time.

Those that greeted her at Heaven’s gate were her mother, father, husband Jim Dunford, and brother Richard (Cotton) McLeroy. She is survived by her daughters, Stephania Hawkins (Shawn) from Hallsville, and Holly Horton (Charlie) from College Station; grandchildren, Alexa Brutchin and Ben Hawkins; sisters, Nell Crout (Bill) and Annette Searcy, both of Longview; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, her beloved “running” buddy, Mary Shivers.

The family will have a Celebration of Life at her residence Saturday, August 19th from 11am – 2pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at https://www.jdrf.org/ in Ann’s memory. She lived with Diabetes for 59 years.
