Julia Means Obituary
Julia Ann Means, 84, died Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Longview Regional Medial Center, following a short illness.
She is survived by her daughter Cathy Sue Beets of Gladewater, Texas, her son Roy Calvin Metcalf, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Longview, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren; her brother Jimmy Bowden and his wife Dawn of Leander, Texas; her sisters Lucille Taylor of Mt. Pleasant and Cheryl Bowden of North Richland Hills, Texas, and many close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Johnnie V. and Gladys Bowden, her brother E.J. Bowden, her sister Martha Applewhite, her son-in-law Randy Beets, her grandson Johnathan Johnson and great grandsons Blake Johnson and J.C. Johnson.
Julia Ann was born April 15,1940 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, and is the daughter of Johnnie V. and Gladys Bowden. Early on Julia Ann lived in Mt. Pleasant where she was blessed with her two amazing children. Later, she moved to and worked in the Longview and Gladewater areas for most of her life.
After moving to the Longview area, she became a checker for Safeway, where she worked for a good many years. Here she met and forged lifelong friendships with Sue Brown and Linda Reising Davis. She also worked at Caddx for a good many years. She took immense pride in doing a good day's work and taking care of her family.
Julia Ann dearly loved her family and her beloved cats Bella and Jane! On any given day you would find one or both curled up in her lap. She also had a passion for reading. No doubt you would find a romance novel or some other book close at hand. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 8, 2025, between the hours of 12 Noon and 2:00 PM at the East Texas Funeral Home. The funeral will be held immediately following the visitation. The address is 6522 McCann Road, Longview, Texas 75605. Interment will be at later date at the Center Grove Cemetery near Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
