Kay Kemp passed away May 11, 2024, in Marshall, TX succumbing after a prolonged battle with
cancer.
She was born December 28, 1945, in El Dorado, Arkansas to Arnold and Helen Jacobs. She graduated from El Dorado High School, attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from Tarrant County College. Kay worked around airports all her working career. She worked at the Salt Lake City, UT airport and finished her career at the Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Her last project prior to retiring from the airport was being the contract administer for runway 17R/35L. Being near airports, she developed a love for flying and obtained her private pilot license.
After retirement and relocation to Marshall, Kay further refined her love for gardening. She was a leader in establishing the Master Gardener Program for Harrison County. She took pride in her spring and summer gardens that produced large amounts of vegetables which very gladly shared with friends and neighbors. She also developed a love for gourds. She also found that she had a talent as an artist and combined the growing of gourds with her art work. She painted beautiful designs on the gourds and sold them for years. She was a member of the Marshall Art Club, American Gourd Society and Trinity Episcopal Church.
She proceeded in death by her parents Helen and Arnold Jacobs, her sister Martha and brother Joe. She is survived by her husband of 40 years Bill, her son Curt (Maxine) of Cedar Hill, TX, and daughter Christina (Darren) of Plano, TX. She is also survived by 3 granddaughters, and 3 great granddaughters. Also, many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the US.
A memorial service to celebrate Kay's life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Friends of Marshall Animals, the American Cancer Society or any animal rescue group.
