Mr. Larry Lee Lohr, 84 of Longview, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
He was born on January 31st ,1941 in Lexington, NC to the late Hubert Daniel Lohr and Bercelia Helig Lohr. Larry was raised in various parts of North Carolina and grew up with eight brothers and four sisters. He is preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, and his first wife and best friend, Donna (Susie) Jennings Lohr.
He is survived by his siblings, brother, Earl Lohr (Florence "Peaches"), sister, Judy Lohr Johns (Glenn), and brother, Garland Lohr. Also surviving are his children, son, Rory Lohr (Lisa), son, Larry Lohr II (Lori), son, Robert Daniel Lohr (Eliza), and daughter, Laura Lohr Moncaleano (Carlos). Larry is also survived by countless grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was very hardworking and started laying flooring in the early 1950's, and later took over Jenning's Garage in Greensboro, NC working as a mechanic. Larry then became a long-distance truck driver, and he enjoyed every mile he drove for almost 50 years. Even during his retirement, he drove pilot cars alongside wide loads for as long as he could. He was also one of the original Figure 8 racecar drivers, bravely driving a 1950 model Ford stockcar. Larry took classes at Air Harbor Airport where he became a private pilot. He loved flying his Tri-Pacer aircraft and was nicknamed "Sky King" which he also used as his CB radio handle as a trucker for many years.
He never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation with anyone who crossed his path. While driving cross country, he'd often stop to visit friends that he met and knew in almost every state. Larry will be remembered for his friendly nature, work ethic, strength, and longevity. He was playful, highly intuitive, and overly generous, the type of person who'd give you the "shirt off his back." He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, true grit, and a zest for life.
Though our hearts are heavy with his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering and has found eternal peace after a life well-lived.
