Michael Ray Hankins

Mr. Michael Ray "Big Papa" Hankins, 66, of Gilmer, Texas, passed away Friday, December 26, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Hankins was born March 1, 1959 in Laurel, MS to Billy Ray Hankins and Jadis Barnes. Mike was a resident of East Texas for 46 years.  He leaves behind a legacy of devotion and unwavering love for his family, hard work, and sense of humor. He was a wonderful husband, an amazing father, and an even better “Big Papa” to his beloved grandchildren. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing with his grandkids, and camping.

Mr. Michael Hankins was preceded in death by his parents; brother in law, Ronnie Pointer; and nephew, Allen Hankins. He leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Jimmie Hankins of Gilmer; daughters, Jennifer and husband Tony Steed of Hallsville, Lynzi and husband Brad Dassonville of New Diana; sons, Anthony Hankins of Gilmer, Bradley Hankins of Gilmer; grandchildren, Isaac, Kylee, Haley, Olivia Steed of Hallsville; Nevaeh Gibson (Dassonville), Natalee Dassonville of New Diana; sister, Eva and husband Dale Pointer Jr of Longview; sister in law, Linda Pointer of Mexia; brother in law Darrell Pointer of Gilmer; Brother in law Charlie Pointer and wife Pamela of Kilgore; many nieces and nephews, host of family and friends.

Mike was a loving husband, father, brother to his sister Eva, and a wonderful friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 8293 Martin in Gilmer, TX 75645.
