Ottis Francis Manley passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, in Avinger, TX, at the age of 62. Born on October 3, 1961, in Kansas City, MO, he grew a life rich in love, accomplishment, and service, leaving a legacy of warmth and generosity.
Ottis's journey brought him from the heartland of Missouri to the expansive skies of Texas, where he found love and built a life with his beloved wife, Paige. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, learning, and love. He was a cherished brother to Brittany, and together they shared an unbreakable bond that only siblings understand. Ottis's life was further enriched by the joyous presence of many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a myriad of friends, including his childhood best friend Matt, all of whom he touched with his kind heart and open arms.
Professionally, Ottis dedicated a significant portion of his life to the world of heavy machinery and the great outdoors. For nearly a decade, he worked in the oil fields working his way up to a crane operator for off-shore drilling, where he was known for his skill and steadfast work ethic. He then brought his expertise to the DOD Non-appropriated Funds (NAF) Clear Creek Golf Course at Ft. Hood, where he served as an irrigation specialist, heavy equipment operator, and chemical specialist. Over the span of 18 years, his contributions helped shape the course into a place of beauty and challenge for all who visited.
In times of national need, Ottis's spirit of service shone brightly. He volunteered as a civilian with the US Army rear detachment during the Gulf War in 1991, offering support and assistance to military personnel and their families. His efforts during this time were a testament to his generous nature and his deep sense of patriotism.
Ottis was an intelligent man whose interests were as broad as his smile. He found joy and solace in the world of amateur CB and side-band radio, connecting with fellow enthusiasts across the airwaves. His love for boating allowed him to embrace the serenity of the water, while his passion for landscaping and homesteading reflected his connection to the earth and his enjoyment in nurturing growth.
To describe Ottis as loving and generous only begins to capture the essence of the man he was. His intelligence was not just of the mind, but of the heart, guiding him to live a life that uplifted others. His absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of knowing him, yet his spirit remains a guiding light that continues to inspire.
Ottis's life was a journey marked by the love he gave freely and the lives he enriched simply by being himself. As we bid farewell to a soul who has left us too soon, we do so with gratitude for the time we shared with Ottis Francis Manley-a husband, brother, friend, and true gentleman.
His memory will be carried forward in the stories told, the laughter shared, and the quiet moments when we feel his presence in the gentle breeze or the calm of the open water. Ottis's legacy is one of love, service, and enduring kindness-a legacy that will continue to blossom in the hearts of those who loved him.
As we lay Ottis to rest, we take comfort in the knowledge that he lived a life full of purpose and joy, and that his journey was replete with the love of family and friends. His was a life well-lived, and he will be profoundly missed.
