Robert T Burns

Robert Thayer Burns, 86, of Kilgore, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on August 21, 2021.

Robert "Bob" Burns was born August 4, 1935 in Sherman, Texas. He was the 4th and youngest child of Henry Ernest Burns and Laverne Weaver Burns. He attended Texas A&M University in College Station before being drafted into the Army in 1958 where he proudly served our country. He then returned to finish college at University of North Texas in Denton, Texas where he met and married the love of his life, Judy Ellis Burns on August 9, 1963. After 8 years of wonderful marriage, they began their family when Jason Thayer Burns was born and 5 years later, Ashley Leigh Burns Johns was born. Being a loving husband, father, and family man was the most important thing to Robert Burns and he certainly did not disappoint when it came to wholeheartedly loving his family.

Bob Burns was loved by all who knew him having some friendships going as far back as elementary school and remained in close contact throughout the years.

He retired after 40 years as a respected Sales Representative in the Apparel business where he traveled Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi and met many lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Ernest Burns and Laverne Weaver Burns, his brothers Gilbert Burns and Kenneth Burns and sister Dorothy Jean Burns. He was also preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Melissa Bass Burns.

Robert Thayer Burns is survived by his wife, Judy Ellis Burns and children, Jason Thayer Burns and wife Diana and Ashley Burns Johns and husband, Darrell. He was also a wonderful grandfather to Christiana Moreland-Burns and Dillan Thayer Johns.

A memorial will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 11 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 301 S Eastland St, Iredell, TX 76649.
