It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Sherman William Smith Jr., a devoted husband, father, brother, and uncle. Sherman passed away on September 11, 2024, at the age of 66, after bravely facing lung cancer. Born on July 25, 1958, in Passaic, New Jersey, he was known for his loving nature, sharp wit, and generous spirit. Surrounded by family and friends, he left this world in Longview, Texas.
Sherman's life was a testament to his unwavering dedication to his family and his work. He leaves behind his cherished wife of 46 years, Deborah Smith, and their son, Sherman Smith III, along with his daughter-in-law, Megan Smith, of Ruther Glen, Virginia. His sister, Debra Smith of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, and his six nieces and nephews will forever remember him for his humor and kindness. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Small, his father, Sherman Smith Sr., his brother, Kenneth Small, and his sister, Roberta Small-each of whom shaped his life in profound ways.
As the respected owner of Sherman Smith Plumbing, Heating & Air Corp in Belle Mead, New Jersey, Sherman built a career marked by hard work and integrity. His colleagues and customers will remember not just his reliable service, but also the hearty laughter that could brighten even the toughest days.
Sherman had a deep love for the outdoors. He found joy in riding his motorcycle on open roads, often with Deborah by his side and friends in tow. Those rides brought him immense happiness and a sense of freedom he cherished. An avid fisherman and hunter, he connected with nature and created lasting memories with those he loved.
To know Sherman was to know a man with a heart as big as the sky. His warmth and quick wit made every gathering brighter. He was generous with his time and always ensured those around him felt valued and heard.
Sherman embraced life's simple pleasures and remained steadfast in his commitment to family and friends. His legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
As we say goodbye, we are reminded of the profound impact one person can have on so many lives. Sherman will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire us.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and medical staff who provided comfort and care during Sherman's final days. Your compassion has been a source of strength in this difficult time.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Sherman's warmth and love will forever be cherished and celebrated.
